We asked Kelly Richardson her tips on 'Eating For Beauty', find out what she said below.
We all know that eating a nutritious balanced diet full of fresh vegetables, fruit, healthy fats and lean protein can help maintain a healthy weight, keep us lean, strong and free from disease. But, did you know that the foods that we eat not only keep the insides of us looking healthy but our outsides as well?
It’s refreshing to think that we don’t need to always splash out on expensive face creams, hair serums and other cosmetic products to look beautiful, we can use nature’s most powerful tools, food, to do the job for us. Eating for beauty is something that all of us can do every day to have glowing skin, shiny hair, bright eyes and strong nails.
Here are some of my favorite every day whole foods that can help to give you a radiant glow.
Eggs are a wonderful addition to any diet providing you with a whole host of vitamins and minerals. They also are a form of complete protein, meaning they provide you with all the essential amino acids needed to generate new proteins, like those in your skin cells. Some of these proteins include elastin and collagen, these strengthen and increase your skins elasticity. Choose organic and free range wherever possible.
Almonds are a powerful little nut when it comes to your eye health. They’re a great source of vitamin E which has been suggested, can slow down macular degeneration. 40g of these delicious treats is going to provide you with more than half of your daily vitamin E.
Honey not only tastes delicious but is also really beneficial for our skin. A good quality local honey will be antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. It’s antibacterial properties are great for keeping our skin blemish free.
Coconut and coconut based products are widely used in the health and beauty industry as it has so many beneficial properties. Coconut oil is great keeping your teeth white, shiny and free from damaging bacteria. Try the ancient Ayurvedic dental technique, oil pulling that involves swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes.
♥ Cherries + Berries
Cherries and berries are loaded with antioxidants, which help repair or prevent the damage caused by free radicals which cause ageing of every cell in the body. So for younger looking skin include cherries and berries in your daily diet. Always choose organic berries for more antioxidants.
Cacao is the beautiful thing in chocolate that makes us feel so good! It’s a great source of the mineral copper which is needed for healthy eyes and hair. I try and get raw chocolate into my diet every day.
Here’s one of my favorite recipes that combines all of these wonderful ‘Eating for Beauty’ wholefoods.
