Cantinho de São José, the best place we ate at during our travels in Lisbon. Not only is the menu budget friendly, they serve authentic Portuguese cuisine which tastes absolutely out of this world. A small, no-frills, restaurant, filled with locals, is truly a must if you are visiting Lisbon. The food is homely, tasty and every dish we tried had its own distinctive flavour.
The menu changes day to day at this local restaurant and we ate there three nights in a row, four people for under 35 Euros each night and the staff are warm and welcoming. If you do find yourself in the area, drop in for a bite to eat. We highly recommend tasting the Arroz de pescado (Rice dish with seafood), Feijoada (Traditional Portuguese stew or beef, pork and beans) and the Bacalhau a bras (dish made with cod, potatoes & egg, garnished with parsley & olives).
To give you an idea we fed 4 adults with a bread and olive & cheese entree (served on arrival), 3 'shared' main courses, wine, and 2 desserts for no more than €32 which is about $45 Australian Dollars!
Don't forget to try some of the Portuguese home made desserts too, the perfect way to finish a hearty meal!
The restaurant may not be everything to look out from the outside but the food and the friendly staff are truly spectacular!
Authentic Portuguese food, on a travel friendly budget!
